How to use the Instagram bio generator

  1. Describe the account

Include what you do, who it is for and anything that sets you apart: "Wedding photographer in Lisbon, natural light, for couples who hate posing".

  2. Add your call to action

What should a new visitor do? "Book a 2027 date via the link", "New recipes every Sunday", "Shop the drop below". Each bio ends with it.

  3. Pick a tone and generate

Fun and bold add personality and the odd emoji; professional keeps it clean for a business. Press Generate more for another set.

  4. Paste it into Edit profile

Copy the bio you like and paste it into the Bio field. Line breaks copy across, and the counter in each result shows its length.

What fits in an Instagram bio

Instagram gives you 150 characters for your bio, and the name field and username get 30 characters each, according to Sendible's guide to Instagram limits (April 2026). Spaces, line breaks and emojis count toward the limit.

That is about two short sentences. So the bio cannot tell your story. Its job is to answer three questions for someone who just landed on your profile: what is this, is it for me, and what do I do now?

The name field also matters. It shows next to your username in search results, so a few words there ("Maya · Lisbon Wedding Photographer") help people find you, and free up the bio for everything else.

Instagram bio formulas that work

The generator varies between patterns like these. Use them to edit a result or write your own.

Who + what + CTA

"Helping new runners finish their first 10K 🏃 Free training plan below ↓". Clear, and works for almost any creator or coach.

Line-by-line

Three short lines: what you do, a proof point or detail, the CTA. Easy to scan on a phone. "Wedding photographer · Lisbon / Natural light, zero posing / 2027 dates open ↓".

Result first

Lead with the outcome followers get: "Weeknight dinners in 20 minutes. New recipe every Sunday." Good for content accounts.

Personality

A line about you that fits the brand: "Plant hoarder, 140 and counting 🌿 Care tips for people who kill cacti". Works when you are the content.

Tips for a better bio

  • Write for a stranger. Followers already know you. The bio is for the person who just watched one Reel and is deciding whether to follow.
  • One call to action. "Link below", "DM to book" or "New video every Friday". Several CTAs in 150 characters compete with each other.
  • Use line breaks. Short lines are easier to read than one block. The generator writes up to three lines.
  • Go easy on emojis. One or two can replace words and add tone. A row of them pushes the useful text out.
  • Update it. Launching something, booking a new season or running a sale? Change the CTA, then change it back.
  • Match your other profiles. Use the same description on TikTok and YouTube so people recognize you. If you need a handle to go with it, try the username generator.
