TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator
On TikTok, views matter more than followers, so this calculator works both ways. Enter likes, comments, shares and saves for a few videos, and see each video’s rate, your average, and how you compare with 2026 benchmarks for accounts your size.
| # | Likes | Comments | Shares | Saves | ER | Remove |

Formula used
(likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100
Worked out per post, then averaged, so one big post counts the same as one small one.
Benchmark
TikTok brand accounts, by followers: 2.50%–3.70% average (Socialinsider, 2026).
Above the band
Benchmarks are averages for brand accounts with 1K–1M followers, so treat them as a rough yardstick. Your numbers stay in your browser.
How to calculate your TikTok engagement rate
-
Choose views or followers
Use "Views" to judge how well your videos land; it is the usual standard on TikTok, where many views come from the For You feed rather than from followers. Use "Followers" when a brand asks for it.
-
Enter your videos
Add likes, comments, shares, saves and views for each video, or paste rows from a spreadsheet. Numbers like 12.4k work too.
-
Enter followers for a size-matched benchmark
Your follower count picks the right benchmark band, since smaller accounts tend to have higher engagement by views.
-
Compare the average and the median
A single video that went viral can lift the average a lot. The median shows a typical video. If you send numbers to a brand, give both.
The TikTok engagement rate formula
By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. A video with 1,800 likes, 60 comments, 50 shares and 90 saves on 40,000 views has an engagement rate of 5%. This is the formula Socialinsider uses for its TikTok benchmarks.
By followers: the same interactions ÷ followers × 100. On TikTok this number swings far more than on Instagram, because a video can reach ten times your following one day and a tenth of it the next. A single viral video can push the rate by followers past 100%.
Work it out per video and average the results. That way a video with 2 million views does not count for more than the other ten combined. The calculator does this for you and also shows the median.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok in 2026?
Average engagement rate by views, by account size, from Socialinsider's TikTok benchmarks (published 22 April 2026). Organic videos from brand accounts with 1,000 to 1 million followers, about 40.7 million videos in all.
| Followers | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| 1K–5K | 4.20% | 4.40% |
| 5K–10K | 3.85% | 4.00% |
| 10K–50K | 3.80% | 3.90% |
| 50K–100K | 3.75% | 3.75% |
| 100K–1M | 3.95% | 3.95% |
Socialinsider reports the overall rate by views at 3.90% in Q3 2026. By followers, its cross-platform report (16 January 2026) gives TikTok 3.70% for 2025 and the TikTok study gives 2.50% for Q3 2026. The calculator uses your tier’s 2025 value and the Q3 2026 overall rate as its band. Socialinsider’s own pages are not fully consistent on some year labels, so treat these as ballpark figures.
Why TikTok engagement looks higher than Instagram
Four interactions, not two
TikTok benchmarks count shares and saves as well as likes and comments. Instagram benchmarks usually count only likes and comments.
Views, not followers
Dividing by views only counts people who saw the video. Dividing by followers includes everyone who did not.
Brand vs brand
On the same follower formula, Socialinsider measured TikTok brand accounts at 3.70% and Instagram at 0.48% in 2025. The gap is real, not just a formula quirk.
Do not mix them
Comparing a TikTok rate by views with an Instagram rate by followers tells you nothing. Use the same formula on both, or compare each to its own benchmark.
Where to find your numbers on TikTok
- Per video: open a video, tap the three dots or "More data" to see views, likes, comments, shares and saves.
- Across videos: TikTok Studio (or Analytics on a business account) lists your recent videos with their stats. Copy the columns into a spreadsheet and paste them into the calculator.
- Followers: on your profile. For a size-matched benchmark it only needs to be roughly right.
- Engagement by views is not the same as watch time. A video can have a modest rate and still be watched to the end. Check average watch time and completion too.
How to raise TikTok engagement
- Win the first second. Viewers decide fast in the For You feed. See how to write a hook.
- Give people a reason to save. Lists, steps and recipes get saved; saves count in the rate.
- Reply to comments with videos. It invites more comments and gives you the next video idea.
- Get the frame right. 1080×1920 at 9:16, with captions clear of the buttons. The TikTok size guide shows the safe zone.
More TikToks from every long video
Engagement needs volume to learn from. Short.now cuts your long videos into captioned vertical clips, and on paid plans posts them to TikTok on a schedule.
Questions
Add likes, comments, shares and saves on a video, divide by its views and multiply by 100. Do this for several videos and average the results. You can divide by followers instead, but views is the TikTok standard.
Socialinsider’s 2026 data puts the average for brand accounts at about 3.75% to 4.40% by views, depending on account size, and 3.90% overall in Q3 2026. By followers, the averages were 2.50% to 3.70%.
Both are used, but views is more common because many TikTok views come from people who do not follow you. Brands sometimes ask for the follower-based rate, so it is worth knowing both.
You are probably using the follower formula on a video that reached far beyond your followers. Switch to the views formula for a rate that makes sense for that video.
In Socialinsider’s 2025 data, brand accounts with 1K–5K followers averaged 4.40% by views, against 3.75% to 4.00% for accounts from 5K to 100K followers.
